Top ten items of bedding for kids

Top ten items of bedding for kids

Top ten items of bedding for kids

Top ten items of bedding for kids

It is common thinking that Bedding items such as quilts, duvets and comforters are the same thing. The fact is, there as a many diferences as similarities with these items and others.

Hopefully, these definitions will clear up any confusion.

COMFORTER ? A comforter is a blanket that keeps us comfortable and warm during sleep. It is usually filled with wool, feathers, polyester or any combination of these stuffings.

A comforter should be

large enough to cover the bed well. This is will prevent slippage if
the sheets are slick.

A comforter?s main purpose is to keep us warm and cozy during sleep in colder times. They are also commonly used as mattress padding during the daytime.

DUVET ? is a warm bed covering that is used in place of a comforter or quilt. It is a bag that is usually filled with down, or other natural or synthetic materials. This filling is usually removable.

A duvet can be considered a comforter. It serves the same purpose as a comforter. The difference with a duvet and comforter is the ?duvet cover.? A ?duvet? is not meant to be washed.

Washing could damage the delicate filling that makes it warm and breatheable. This is where the ?duvet cover? comes in.

DUVET COVER ? this is the bag that keeps the duvet clean. A duvet cover usually comes with a zipper or buttons.

This allows it to be removed and washed. In some countries a duvet and a comforter are considered one and the same. However, in the U.S. they are not viewed that way.

A duvet is usually referred to as a duvet cover in the U.S. which makes it a bit confusing if you consider that a duvet really is a comforter with a cover. A duvet is not decorative, but the cover is.

This makes it easy to change to look of your bed by reusing the same filling with different covers.

QUILTS ? A bed quilt is a blend of fabrics that serve as decorative covers for a bed. Many quilts are made with fanciful patterns. Some with elaborately embrodered decorations.

Quilts usually have detailed stitches (normally 10 stiches per inch). They are created with three layers of fabric; a quilted top, a batting and fabric for a backing. A quilt is not to be confused with a comforter.

While comforters and duvets serve the keeping you warm at nights. quilts are purely decorative bedding.

COVERLET - A coverlet is a lightweight bedspread, it is often used as throw for beds sofas. It can be either woven or quilted. Woven coverlets are made from materials with a rough, itchy texture.

Quilted coverlets are created using quilted patterns with a thin layer of batting between the quilted top and backing.

As in the case of woven coverlets, quilted coverlets are also very thin. They are only made for decoration. They do not provide much insulation.

A very good way to use a coverlet is to spread it neatly on top of a complimentary sheet set and bed skirt.

SHEET SET- A sheet set is a package of matching bed sheets that includes a flat sheet also called a top sheet, a fitted sheet also called bottom sheet, and pillowcase(s).

Sheets sets offer bedding in a simple package for the convenience of not having to purchase individual basic bedding items.

Some common fabrics used to make sheet sets are cotton, flanel or polyester blends. Preference for certain type of fibers plays a large role in some people choice of sheet sets.

Light cotton sheets are considered for warmer climates, while flanel in cold weather because it is warm and insulating.

BED SKIRT - Also know as dust skirt or dust ruffle. A bed skirt is a piece fabric to which a skirt is attached. It?s a decorative accessory whose main purpose is to give the bed a stylish look, by covering exposed sides of box springs.

Bed skirts can either be gathered or pleated and usually compliments the rest of the bedding.

HUGGER ? A hugger is a fitted kids comforter. It ?hugs? the bed the same way a fitted sheet does. There are two variations. A four corner fitted hugger and a two corner fitted hugger.

Huggers are not well known or very popular but are very useful for children.

Huggers makes is easy for little children to make thier beds. Especially the four corner huggers.

Huggers can be considered as a well kept secrect in kids bedding.

Hopefully I?ve helped clearing some of the misunderstanding. Don?t be afraid to point out anything that I ommitted.

Teen Bedding Tips from Wake Up Frankie

Every so often, you hear a story about a young person who has the foresight to fulfill a need in the marketplace. The idea may be sparked by that individual person's desire for something they want but cannot find, or it could even be an epiphany, when one realizes that their creative idea might just be worth manifesting into something real.

The story behind Wake Up Frankie is one such story. A young teenage girl's dream of how she would like to decorate her bedroom spawned the idea for a store that would carry amazing bedding and accessories for teen girls. Wake up, Frankie, you're not dreaming anymore!

About Wake Up Frankie

Wake Up Frankie was started in 2001 by me, Frankie, then 14, and my mom, Pam. We both saw a need for bedroom dcor exclusively devoted to teen girls. At the time, we were pioneers in this category and this accounts for our immediate success.

LTK: What are some of the inspirations behind your bedding designs?

Frankie: Our bedding designs are definitely inspired by hip and cutting edge fashion, current trends, music, musicians and pop culture. I love to use bold patterns, intense colors, lots of dressmaker details and of course, my signature combination of pink and black!

Tips on Choosing Teen Bedding and Accessories

LTK: Do you have any good tips on what to look for when choosing a bedding style?

Frankie: When choosing a bedding style, most girls want to select a look that reflects her personality. The choice may also reflect the way she dresses. It's likely the "girly girl" will choose pink or turquoise damask and have a crystal hanging chandelier , while the "rocker girl" will go for our all black airbrushed guitar bedding and line the walls with tons of music posters.

Our bedding collections are designed to mix and match many of the top of the bed selections as well as the accessories. Mixing and matching will give the room a custom look and feel.

LTK: What advice can you offer on bedding accessories? Do you have any other decorating tips?

Frankie: Accessories are great complements to the bedding. Try to keep it organized, furniture placement balanced, and try to carry the look through to every detail. For instance, you might not be able to afford new furniture or new lamps - but a can of spray paint can do wonders to coordinate it to the new makeover. Some of the best rooms are created on a budget, and a can of spray paint and a glue are your best tools!

We have a link on our site for decorating tips. It offers great ideas and sources.

Buying Bedding as a Gift

LTK: Shopping for teens can be tricky. Do you have any tips on buying bedding as a gift?

Frankie: Buying bedding as a gift is a great idea. We have noticed that many moms, dads, aunts and grandparents purchase for their teens, and for the most part it seems like the teen has already pre-selected their choice. If you're are not sure which pattern to select, we offer Gift Certificates, which are always the safe way to go!

Popular Designs and Specials

LTK: What are some of your best-selling bedding collections? Do you have any new designs you would like to talk about?

Frankie: Wake Up Frankie offers over 100 exclusive and unique bedding collections. Our top selling patterns are anything damask, anything pink and black, Parisian themed and our personalized airbrushed bedding.

LTK: Do you have any coupons or specials?

Frankie: Wake Up Frankie almost always offers some kind of special deal - free shipping, two for one, or a percentage off. Customers and visitors can sign up for emails where they will be alerted to the current promotion, giveaways, contests or newest items.

LTK: Do you have a catalog and how do shoppers get one?

Frankie: We do have a catalog sign-up on Wake Up Frankie's home page. Our next mailing should be in late fall, focusing on Holiday shopping. In the meantime, we encourage our shoppers to get the most current and complete selection on Wake Up Frankie.com!

Styles for Guys

At Wake Up Frankie, teens can find amazing bedding styles that can't be found anywhere else. While the majority of the bedding styles are aimed at girls, you can also find awesome designs for guys such as the Black Light Special, Party Like a Rock Star and Have Urban Taggin' UR Name? (Personalized).

Create Your Own Style

Wake Up Frankie understands how much most teens like to create their own individual style. Unlike many stores that sell bedding collections as a bed-in-a-bag, with sheets, bed skirts, shams and throw pillows all included, everything in these collections can be purchased individually. You can create your own, totally unique look in your room and call it whaterver you want. Shopping at Wake Up Frankie allows you to explore a wide variety of custom decorating options for your bedroom.

Ed Hardy Bed Linens

bold animal print
Bold animal prints are a Hardy staple.

Wildly colorful and undeniably creative, Ed Hardy bed linens add a splash of color and a bold look to any bedroom. The line is distinctive and immediately recognizable for its tattoo-inspired prints, and the Hardy bedding collection is nothing short of incredibly imaginative.

About Ed Hardy

Tattoo artist Ed Hardy probably never expected that his workmanship would ever be regarded as a major trend in the worlds of men's and women's fashion. That's exactly what happened, though, when designer Christian Audigier assumed the rights to create a line of clothing and accessories featuring Hardy's unique Japanese tattoo designs. In addition to these, the line also includes a number of lifestyle products, such as computer accessories, barware, journals and bedding.

Types of Ed Hardy Bed Linens

From duvets and pillow shams to sheets and decorative pillows, the Ed Hardy bedding collection, created by Wholly Sheet, includes a little bit of something for everyone. The bedding company utilizes high-quality materials (like 300-thread count sateen and single-ply cotton) and uses digital printing to implement Hardy's work on the linens.

Whether you plan to redecorate the entire bedroom with a tattoo-inspired theme, or simply add a couple of pieces to an existing set-up to liven things up, you can count on finding something appropriate to suit your needs. Among the many items available are:

  • Blankets: Soft and plush, Ed Hardy blankets are a great gift idea for anyone who loves the bold and hates the cold. They are made of polyester and acrylic blends for an ultra-soft texture, and are great for throwing over the bed or even the couch as a head-turning accent piece. Note that these are somewhat rarer, but not impossible to find.
  • Duvets: Whether bold or subtle, there are a number of duvets available bearing Ed Hardy's edgy artwork. More understated designs feature dark color palettes with minimal embroidery, while adventurous pieces are wildly fearless in their use of opposing colors. Duvets are available in twin, full, queen, and king sizes, and are typically sold in sets with either one or two pillow shams.
  • Euro shams: Measuring 26 by 26 inches, European pillows are large, overstuffed squares that a distinct element to any room. Slip an Ed Hardy sham over it and you can count on turning some heads! These pillows are perfect for dens and family rooms, too. Decorative shams like Hardy's can also prove to be great conversation starters. Look for striking prints and a few subtle ones, like multicolored trim around a solid colored center.
  • Neck rolls: Slightly unusual but also very fun for the ardent Ed Hardy fan, neck rolls are designed to complement existing bedding collections by the designer. They feature long, lean shapes and are overstuffed for coziness. Available in a variety of prints and solid colors, these pillows also make great complements to simple bedroom dcor thanks to their diminutive size.
  • Pillowcases: Available in standard, queen and king sizes, the Ed Hardy pillowcase lineup is vast. Some styles speak to the darker side of the artist's work, featuring devilish color palettes and fierce art, while others are lighter and almost playful with their soft colors (think yellow and baby blue). Since pillowcases are fairly discreet and not generally visible, they also make a fine addition to an existing set-up, although they can certainly be shown off.
  • Sheet sets: Ed Hardy sheet sets offer everything you need, including a flat sheet, fitted sheet and two pillowcases. The sheet sets are packaged in large collector boxes that are etched with the artist's work along the edges. The sets feature fairly bold designs, although some are more demure than others - for example, you may choose to opt for a white sheet set with minimal tattoo artwork if you're going the more understated route.

What to Expect

Not familiar with Ed Hardy's work? Consider the bedding a crash course in all things wild and wonderful. The tattoo artist's workmanship features a host of mesmerizing prints, some of which may not be suitable for the very conservative. Look for Ed Hardy bed linens with:

  • Bold pronouncements, like banners stating "Love Kills Slowly"
  • Daring patterns, like sharp animal teeth and blazing fires
  • Exotic animal prints and unexpected color combinations, like pink and green camouflage leopard spots
  • Mermaids posing seductively atop vibrant backdrops
  • Playful motifs, like lounging bumblebees and smiling flowers
  • Skulls with flowers in their long hair

Where to Shop

Tracking down Ed Hardy bedding can be a bit of a hassle, but it isn't impossible to find the pieces you want. Visit online haunts like Amazon and eBay for the best pick of what's readily available, and be sure to check the latter site frequently for new additions. You may wish to check the Ed Hardy brick and mortar stores, many of which are outlets. Visit the store locator to find the store nearest you.

As with any piece of bedding, it can be tricky to find the right piece without seeing it in person. Unfortunately, you may have to purchase Ed Hardy bedding online, so do some research on the seller's return policy beforehand. With the right piece in your possession, you can count on years of use and plenty of color, too.

You can find tablecloths for indoor or outdoor use as well as special occasions such as holidays, weddings and other celebrations or events.

Where to Find Large Tablecloths

Some of the best places to find large tablecloths are professional banquet suppliers, especially if your table is larger than standard-sized tablecloths.

  • Elegant Linens: Offers a wide selection of style and sizes for large tablecloths in sizes up to, oblong 70"x180", rectangle 88"x160", 90"x90" square and 120" round tablecloths. • Tablecloths Factory: There are many styles and colors choices available for large tablecloths up to sizes: Rectangle 96"x156", 120" round and 70"x180"oblong. Banquet Tablecloth Sizes

There are many times you may opt for a banquet-sized table to seat all of your clan. You may find that a standard banquet-sized tablecloth will work, or you might need to have one custom-made. The average height of a table is 30" and a banquet tablecloth has a standard drop (fabric overhang) of 15". This allows the tablecloth to fall halfway between the table top and the floor. If you want your tablecloth to fall to the floor, then you need to add 30" to each side for a total of 60" to the width and length of your tabletop measurements.

Tradeshows and Event Tablecloths

You may be in charge of setting up a booth at a tradeshow that requires unusually long tables and large tablecloths. One popular choice is a typical banquet floor length tablecloth with a logo table runner centered over the tablecloth. This allows you more versatility in colors and patterns in your tablecloth choices that can be changed with seasons and special themed occasions. A second choice is to have your company or organization logo screen-printed directly onto the tablecloth. Cost considerations often dictate which style is best.

  • Throw tablecloth: This tablecloth drapes over the table with a full 30" drop to floor length.
  • Fitted tablecloth: Pleated corners and merrowed hem (rolled hem sewn with a Merrow serger).

Custom-Made Tablecloths

Custom-made tables can often have odd dimensions and need a specially made tablecloth. You may have an extra large table or a unique room layout that requires an oddly shaped table or simply use two tables together. Whatever the reason that you need a custom-made tablecloth, there are several online sources available for custom-made tablecloths. Just be certain your measurements are accurate before placing an order.

  • Tablecloth Designs: If you have an odd shaped table, you're required to create a pattern to submit to the company. Complete instructions are given. There is a one-time fee of $10 for non-standard sizes and an additional $15 fee for any non-standard shapes. There is also a form you can complete for the size you need. In addition, you are encouraged to email or call if you are unsure about the cost or process of ordering your custom tablecloth. Fabric colors are wide with many patterns available. Damask, linen, vinyl and laminate as well as seasonal and holiday themes fabrics are available.
  • Le Pin Parasol: Claim that they offer "Custom made tablecloths to suit any table", even one designed for an umbrella table. You can choose from a wide selection of styles and fabrics.

Other Considerations

Before you buy a tablecloth, make sure you take accurate measurements of your table and that it is a standard 30" height from the floor.

Add Drop Length to Measurements

You need to also add-in the length of the tablecloth drop. The drop length of your tablecloth is the amount of fabric that extends beyond the edge of the table. When allowing for a drop, you must remember that all table sides need to be accommodated for a drop length. This simply means you need to double the drop length measurement and then add it to the width and again to the length of your measurements. For a round table, simply add the drop twice to the diameter.

For example, if you have a 60" table and want a 10" drop, then the formula would be:

  • 60"+10"+10"=80" round tablecloth

Seam Versus Seamless

One thing to consider when selecting a company is how they construct large tablecloths. Most tablecloths that are over 50" or 60" in width require at least one seam and in some cases, two seams. It's best to check if the company matches patterns vertically and horizontally. While this method requires more fabric, it certainly is worth the extra expense for the professional appearance it gives your tablecloth.

Before You Order

It may help to create a checklist of the various features you need in your tablecloth that you can check off before placing your order. By taking time to double-check your measurements, allow for the drop and understanding how your tablecloth will be constructed, you ensure you end up with your ideal tablecloth.

Retailers will be happy to let you know when their seasonal items will be available for sale.

Holiday bedding and linens are available at the following online retailers:

Also, don't forget to check the after Christmas Sales for holiday bed linens. This is a great time to shop for holiday bedding if you want to save money. Some retailers have leftover quantities of Christmas dcor and bedding that they want to get rid of quickly, so prices are reduced drastically.

Kids' Bath Towels

The sky is the limit when it comes to kids' bath towel choices. Your child can find a towel with her favorite cartoon character that makes the search for the ideal towel fun and exciting.

Hooded Towels

One of the most popular designs today for kids' towels is the hooded bath towel. These towels have been very popular for infants because the hood helps keep the baby warm while you wrap the rest of the towel around her body. However, hooded towels are not just for babies.

You can find a great selection of hooded towels designed for bigger kids. These terry cloth towels are soft and plush. You can find brightly colored towels in many different designs, such as mythical creatures, monsters, farm animals, wild animals, sea creatures and more.

Just don't be surprised if your child gets somewhat attached to her favorite hooded towel. She may use her towel as a costume or cuddle up with it while watching television.

Personalized Towels

Along with hooded towels, children love personalized towels. Anytime you can put a child's name on something, it makes that object special to the child. Who wouldn't want to use a bath towel with their name written on it? Now if they would only invent personalized soap, maybe it wouldn't be such a battle to actually get a child clean.

You can find personalized bath towels with fun patterns such as pirate ships, jungle animals, flowers, sports items, hearts and more. You can also have your child's name added on some hooded towels. In addition to personalized towels, you can have your child's initials placed on a monogrammed bath towel.

Bath Towel Sets

A great way to buy bath towels for kids is to buy a bath towel set. Most bath towel sets include a bath towel, hand towel and washcloth, although some towel sets only include the bath towel and a washcloth. At The Company Store, you can buy a bath towel set that includes a water resistant toiletry bag.

Disney Bath Towels

If your child is a big Disney fan, you can find bath towels with Disney characters on them. At Amazon, you can find many Disney character kids' towels including:

  • Winnie the Pooh
  • Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
  • Cinderella
  • Ariel (The Little Mermaid)

Macy's also carries Disney hooded towels with characters from Toy Story, Cars and the Disney princesses.

Oversized Towels

Oversized bath towels for kids are not that easy to find. You can use a kids' beach towel as an oversized bath towel if you are unable to find one.

One place where you can find oversized bath towels for kids is the Colorful Childhood Store. These large, plush, hooded towels are big enough to use as beach towels. They were designed by a mom from Virginia named Wendy Carter. Carter was inspired to design these towels because of her oldest daughter's attachment to her beloved "ducky" hooded towel, which she had received on her first birthday. The little girl would not get out of the bath without this special towel. Mom Wendy has designed a total of 15 different kids' towels which will work for kids up to eight years old.

Organic Cotton and Bamboo Bath Towels

Most kids' bath towels are made of 100% cotton terry cloth. If your child has sensitive skin or allergies, you should consider buying bath towels made from organic cotton or bamboo. Organic cotton is guaranteed to be free of chemicals, pesticides and other toxins because it is grown by environmentally friendly standards. Bamboo is naturally antimicrobial and hypoallergenic. Bath towels made from bamboo fiber are naturally odor resistant and a great choice for those with sensitive skin. You can find organic cotton and bamboo kids' towels at Green and More and Toys R Us.
